The earliest childhood memories of the boys and girls from the Rājghāṭ bank of the Koheliya River were defined by the water.
Waking before dawn, the children would hurriedly eat pāntā bhāt (fermented rice) with guṛ (jaggery) and rush to the river to fish. A portion of the catch would be sold, and the rest reserved for a special picnic feast. Immediately after fishing, we would hurry off to school.
